Why it closes at all
Al Hadheerah is an open-air venue with no roof over the dining floor, which means the same desert heat that makes a winter evening magical makes a summer one impractical — outdoor dining in the peak of a Dubai summer simply isn't comfortable for guests or staff, and the daytime temperatures across June to September routinely stay high well after dark. The venue has run on this seasonal pattern since the resort opened in 2004, closing through the hottest stretch and reopening once evenings cool down, in line with how most open-air desert venues across the UAE operate.
The shoulder-season sweet spot
The weeks just after the venue reopens for the season and just before it closes again tend to offer the best balance — evenings are cool enough to be comfortable but the venue hasn't hit the busiest run of winter bookings yet. If your travel dates are flexible, these shoulder weeks are worth considering over the deep-winter peak, both for slightly easier availability and for evenings that are pleasant without needing a heavy jacket at the table. December and January are the other end of the spectrum — the most comfortable desert nights of the year, and correspondingly the busiest.
What to wear across the season
Even in the coolest months, Dubai desert evenings can still feel mild at the start of the night and cool quickly once the sun is fully down — a light jacket or wrap is worth having regardless of which month you visit. In the shoulder months either side of the closure, the gap between afternoon heat and evening cool is wider still, so a layer that packs down small is more useful than a heavy coat you're carrying around a warm car park beforehand.

Comparing to a year-round option
If your dates fall inside the summer closure, a desert safari with a covered or tented dinner setup is generally the closest year-round equivalent in the same part of Dubai, since those are typically built to run through the heat. It's a different evening — usually shorter and less performance-led, and built around dune driving rather than a fixed dinner-theatre programme — but it fills the same slot on a summer itinerary that Al Hadheerah can't. Indoor, air-conditioned entertainment in the city is the other realistic summer alternative if an outdoor evening of any kind doesn't appeal in the heat.
